Daytime privacy
ThermaCore Privacy: one-way daytime privacy
ThermaCore Privacy is a one-way film that gives daytime privacy: in bright daylight it is harder to see in from outside. It is quoted after our glass compatibility check.
Special order

- Light in, views blocked
- Great for meeting rooms and bathrooms

- Frost a band or the whole pane
- Branding and patterns possible

- Cut to match each pane
- Edge-to-edge or custom shape
How “one-way” film works
The film reflects more light than the glass alone. By day, the outside is brighter than the room, so the reflection hides the view in. You can still see out.
At night, with lights on inside, the effect reverses, so you will still want blinds or curtains.

Where it fits
Daytime privacy
Harder to see in from outside during the day.
Street-facing rooms
Rooms that face a street or neighbor.
Ground-floor glass
Windows at eye level.
Glass check required
Only quoted if your glass passes.
Inside the film
Not to scale. Layers differ by manufacturer.
How we handle it
- Tell us the room. Street-facing, ground-floor or shared walls.
- Glass compatibility check. Done before any quote.
- Quote and spec sheet. Both come together.
Not the best fit for
- Privacy at night, when lights are on inside.
- Anyone who needs strong cell, GPS or Wi-Fi signal through the window.
Good to know
- Privacy depends on the light: it works by day and reverses at night.
- Many one-way films contain a thin metal layer.
Exact specifications are on the spec sheet we share with your quote. The warranty length is named on your quote; see our warranty page.

How it is made
Inside a ThermaCore Privacy film
Privacy film gets its frosted or etched look from a textured or dyed layer on polyester, sometimes with a pattern printed or cut into it. It diffuses light so you can still see brightness but not clear shapes.
Window film starts as optical-grade polyester (PET), a clear plastic made in very thin, even sheets. Coatings are added in layers: dyes or ceramic particles, thin metal or metal-oxide layers applied in vacuum chambers, and a scratch-resistant hard coat. A pressure-sensitive adhesive and a protective liner go on the other side. The layers are laminated and cured, then slit into rolls and checked for clarity, coating evenness and defects before they ship.
Specs to ask for
Numbers that matter when you compare
Visible light
VLT is the share of visible light that passes through. Higher is clearer and brighter. Ask how much light passes through (VLT) and how private it looks in day and at night.
Total solar energy rejected
TSER shows how much of the sun’s total energy the film blocks, including heat. Frosted privacy film mostly keeps daylight and blocks views; it is not mainly a heat product.
UV rejection
The share of ultraviolet rays blocked, which affects fading of floors, furniture and art.
Solar heat gain
Lower SHGC means less solar heat enters the room. It applies to the whole window, so ask for the film-on-glass value.
Glass compatibility
Film suits some glass better than others. We check your glass type and any maker restrictions before we quote.
What is covered
Ask for the film maker’s warranty and ours, including what each covers and for how long.
Exact figures come from the maker datasheet for the film we quote. We send the datasheet with your quote. Ask us and we will explain any number.
After install
Looking after it
Soft cloth, mild soap and a little patience in the first weeks keep this film clear for years.
Questions
Can people see in at night?
Yes, they can when the lights are on inside. Use blinds or curtains for night privacy.
Will you check my glass first?
Yes. Glass type matters, so we confirm the film suits your windows before we quote. If a film is not right for a window, we will say so.
Where do I find the exact specifications?
The manufacturer’s specification sheet for the exact film comes with your quote. We do not publish performance figures on this page, because they differ from roll to roll.
What does the warranty cover?
The warranty length is named on your quote. See our warranty page for the draft terms.
Can I still get daylight?
Yes. Frosted film diffuses light rather than blocking it, though it will look softer.
Can it be custom cut?
We can cut panels, bands and patterns. Send us your idea.
